October 17, 2006 - Here's a special note from the Newsletter editor:

"Inadvertently a daily result for the Canadian Championship was reported in the newsletter not the final standings. The online version of the newsletter has been corrected reflecting the final standings and average of each of the participants. In making the corrections it was noted that two participants were missed in the report. They have also been added in the corrections. My apologies to all the participants." Editor

October 15, 2006 - The Fall 2006 Horseshoe Ontario Newsletter is now online and can be viewed here.

September 19, 2006 - All pitchers who are without current games played in a sanctioned tournament in the last 12 months have been removed from the posted rankings. We are trying to clean up the Shoes program and remove any pitchers that have not renewed their memberships and are deceased or infirmed and no longer able to pitch. It appears that there are quite a few pitchers that had a posted ranking that have been deceased, infirmed or unable to pitch for quite some time. After we have completed the exercise of cleaning up the database, we will once again resume posting all pitchers with a ranking.

April 28, 2006 - Please be aware that the location of the Ontario Michigan Friendship Tournament for 2006 is Ontario. The Spring 2006 Newsletter mailed out to the members shows that the Ontario Michigan Friendship Tournament will to be held in Michigan. The mistake was found after the newsletters came back from the printers. The location was corrected in the online version of the newsletter but anyone who received the newsletter by mail will have gotten the wrong location.

April 19, 2006 - The Spring 2006 Horseshoe Ontario Newsletter is now ready for your viewing pleasure! You'll notice with this issue that the overall look and feel is closer to the original Newsletter that gets sent out by mail.

To view the Spring 2006 edition, click on the "Newsletter" link on the left side of the page or click here. The passcodes for the previous Newsletters will also be removed in the next few days as we convert them to the new format.

October 13, 2005 - Several new sanctioned tournaments have been added to the Tournaments page covering from now until mid 2006.

August 22, 2005 - The National Post ran an article in their August 20th newspaper showcasing the 2005 Canadian Horseshoe Championships that were held in Halifax, NS from August 10-13th. Thanks to Gerry Roeder for pointing out the article. The story is called Horseshoe Heaven. It's well worth the read!

July 12, 2005 - The results of the Ontario Singles have been tabulated and are now available online. Click here for all the stats.

June 27, 2005 - A new feature has been added to our webpage. You will now be able to access your ranking on either CANSTATS or the Horseshoe Ontario Stats by clicking on the RANKINGS button on the left.

May 30, 2005 - The 17th Annual Elmer Hohl Ringer Classic results are in and can be viewed here.

May 15, 2005 - A $1,000 prize package has been added to the Ontario Provincial Horseshoe Pitching Doubles Championships at The Woodstock Moose Family Center on June 11th & 12th 2005. Entry Deadline is May 21st or entries will be taken at the Elmer Hohl Ringer Classic before or on May 28 (cash only).

May 11, 2005 - The 17th Annual Elmer Hohl Ringer Classic schedule of playing times has been finalized and can be viewed here.

April 4, 2005 - Please be aware that the Beachville Legion is hosting a sanctioned tournament on Sunday, April 10th at 12:30pm.

March 13, 2005 - Tournament entry forms have now been added to the website for the following:

  • Elmer Hohl on May 28-29 - Entry deadline May 7 - Entry form
  • Doubles on June 11-12 - Entry deadline May 21 - Entry form
  • Singles on July 9-10 - Entry deadline June 18 - Entry form
February 5, 2005 - The newsletters slated to be sent in February and May have been cancelled. There will now be a larger newsletter sent out in April. This newsletter will replace both the Feb and May newsletters. The reason for this is that the entry forms for the Canadians and the Worlds will not be available until the beginning of March and there was a distinct lack of input from the members of Horseshoe Ontario and we only received 2 or 3 small articles which did not give us enough content to create a newsletter. The new cut off date for submissions to the newsletter is March 11th.

January 11, 2005 - The dates and locations for the Ontario Doubles, Ontario Singles and Canadian Championships have been announced and are now posted on our Tournaments page. Details and registration forms to follow!

October 17, 2004 - The October 2004 Newletter is now online. If you have provided us with your email address, check your mailbox for the passcode. If you have not sent us your email address and would like to view the Newsletter online, just fill out the Member profile and we'll provide you with the passcode for the current and past newsletters. July 12, 2004 - The deadline for registration into the Ontario Singles is approaching fast! Mail in your entries no later than July 24th.

May 18, 2004 - The May 2004 Newletter is now online. If you have provided us with your email address, check your mailbox for the passcode. April 18, 2004 - We invite you to check out our new MessageBoard! Register your username and post questions, comments, ideas and share your knowledge of the sport of horseshoe pitching with others.

March 21, 2004 - The deadline for submissions for the May Newsletter is April 3rd. This will be the last newsletter for the summer and will cover the time from May 15th to Oct 15th. If you are planning on hosting any tournaments and wish them to be advertized in the Newsletter, the information has to be sent to Dawn Morse (Newsletter@HorseshoeOntario.com) by April 3rd.

February 22, 2004 - The Tournaments page has been updated with lots of new entries and the inclusion of registration forms for the major tournaments. Here's a summary of the major tournaments this year and the entry forms:

  • Elmer Hohl - deadline May 1st - entry form
  • Doubles - deadline May 25th - entry form
  • Canadians - deadline June 10th - entry form
  • Worlds - deadline May 20th - entry form
  • Singles - deadline to be determined - entry form not available yet

December 21, 2003 - Sadly, a good friend of Horseshoe Ontario, Bob Jones, former New York State Champion, passed away on Friday, December 19th due to a stroke. Condolences go out to him and his family from everyone at Horseshoe Ontario. Funeral proceedings will be on Tuesday, December 23rd at 11:00am at St. Mark Open Door Baptist Church, 2901 Highland Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. If anyone wants to send cards, mail them to his father, Mr. Willie Jones at 2081 Virginia Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14305. For further details, contact Pat McBratney at 905-894-7290.

October 25, 2003 - Several sanctioned tournaments have been added to the Tournaments page for the fall and winter seasons at indoor clubs like Wingham, Hamilton, Brantford and Rengar Horseshoe Palace in Belleville.

October 21, 2002 - This is a reminder of the Annual General Meeting this Saturday, October 26th at the Brantford Ringer Club at 10am. October 9, 2002 - Horseshoe Pitching on TV !? You bet! Bell Mobility recorded a TV commercial about the Biggest Tournament in the World. The commercial was auditioned at the Woodstock Club with Horseshoe Ontario member Stan Leis standing next to Jim Hehn as he pitches the shoes and Jim polishes a trophy at the end. The commercial is airing on TV right now - watch for it! This is an excellent publicity boost for the greatest sport in the World! Thanks Bell.

October 1, 2002 - The September 2002 Newsletter is now online! For those of you that have provided us with your email address, check your inbox for the September 2002 "passcode" to view the Newsletter online. For those of you without an email address, the Newsletter was mailed out first thing Monday morning, so you should receive it shortly.

September 4, 2002 - Congratulations Lloyd Harvey of Brampton! Lloyd is the winner of Horseshoe Ontario's Wordsearch Contest which ended on August 31st. A draw was held from all the correct entries we received by mail and email and Lloyd's name was drawn. Lloyd wins a Horseshoe Unlimited T-Shirt from Jean Markle and a "Digger" complements of Bill Vanderburg.

August 17, 2002 - Here's a follow up to Dawn Morse's earlier message:

The problems with the new Shoes program appear to be resolved and all the tournament results received have now been entered into the Shoes Program and sent to CANSTATS. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Also thanks to Sam Tomasevic for updating the Ontario results and keeping CANSTATS current while the problems with the Shoes program were being resolved.
August 10, 2002 - We have a celebrity among us... our very own Drew Becker is the Junior Boys World Champion! Kitchener-Waterloo's local newspaper, The Record, has even written an article about Drew's success. For more on Drew, click here.

July 30, 2002 - An important message from Dawn Morse:

We recently received a new and improved version of "Shoes" (the software program) used to record and calculate the rankings. Unfortunately, there is a problem with how the program is working and I am unable at the present time to update the rankings.
All the rankings received before July 23rd should appear in the next CANSTATS update. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. If you require an update, please refer to the CANSTATS report.
The rankings will be updated as soon as the problem is resolved and a
notice will be sent out on the website. Thank you for your understanding.

April 18, 2002 - Message from Wayne Becker, Tournament Director:

It has been brought to my attention that a lot of people are concerned about the Horseshoe Ontario Doubles tournament being walking doubles. To answer this problem, it is the decision of the tournament committee that this tournament is to be STANDING DOUBLES. We hope this resolves this issue. Thanks to everyone for their input into this issue.

January 19, 2002 - Hey, have you heard? There's a new club in town! The Belleville Horseshoe Club is open for business and is accepting new members! The indoor club hosts an impressive 8 courts in a facility called the Rengar Horseshoe Palace located at 1090 Blessington Road in Belleville, north of the 401 off Highway 37. The club is holding its first sanctioned tournaments on February 9th and April 6th. For further details, please contact John Taylor at 905-372-8843.

January 1, 2002 - Please be advised that the annual membership fees have been increased to $15.00. Those of you that have mailed in your membership at $10.00, please forward the extra $5.00 to the membership chairperson. The additional $5.00 will be used for the newsletter, supporting the Canadian Championships, help fund the Ontario Singles and Doubles, ongoing operating expenses, and all other costs involved. Junior memberships remain at $1.00.

November 2, 2001 - The Horseshoe Ontario Hall of Fame Dinner will be held at the K W Khaki Club on Sunday, December 2nd at 2:00pm.

June 12, 2001 - The deadline for entry for the Ontario Doubles has been extended! The cutoff date is now June 17th. So, don't delay, enter now!

May 29, 2001 - Only one week left to register for the Ontario Doubles! The deadline for entry is June 4. To enter, just print the entry form, fill it out, write a cheque and send it in. DO IT NOW! Did we mention the added $2,000 prize money AND trophies for the winner of each class!?

While you're at it, fill out the Ontario Singles entry form also as the deadline for registering is July 30. There is also an added $2,000 prize money AND trophies for the winner of each class!

October 28, 2000 - Horseshoe Ontario is pleased to announce its new President, as voted in by you, the members, at the Annual General Meeting held today. Congratulations Al Springall.

August 13, 2000 - Red Deer, Alberta has been awarded the 2002 World's Tournament. This is great news considering this will be the second time ever that a Canadian city is hosting the World's Tournament. The first was in Kitchener, Ontario in 1997 with a World's tourney record attendance!
